I was driving on Hawthorne Blvd this morning and spotted this Redondo Beach police officer on a Honda Africa Twin dual sport. This is the first time I’ve ever seen cops on this style of motorcycle.
When he noticed me taking pictures, he started glaring at me suspiciously but when I told him that I ride and that I had never seen officers on dual sports, he proudly gave me the thumbs up and said “These are Honda Africa Twins and they’re awesome dude. Have a good day buddy!” At first, I thought me taking pictures of him pissed him off but he turned out to be in a really good mood and was a super cool cop.
Honestly, how could you not be when you’re job is to ride a cool ass motorcycle in a city right next to the beach with fresh air and beautiful people everywhere! Aside from the fact that you could die on any given day and have to deal with dirty smelly loonies and scumbags all day, that’s one job I would probably like more than pipefitting.
Apparently, Honda donated two Africa Twins to the Redondo Beach Police Foundation a few years back to test out whether these style of bikes would be a good fit for police use and it looks like it stuck. And since the Honda America headquarters is in Torrance, which borders the city of Redondo Beach, it all makes sense. What a great country!
Unfortunately for this poor bastard, the first cops partner, who was also on an Africa Twin, was on the ball and nabbed this guy speeding in his hatchback, two seconds after I snapped the first photos.
Knock on wood but I’ve never gotten a speeding ticket…well one that I haven’t beaten in court anyway, haha. Oh and if you ever need an amazing attorney, hire Shaffer Cormell in San Bernardino County. I think he’s a criminal attorney but I’ve hired him to deal with the few unjustly traffic tickets I’ve received over the years and he’s always proven to be well worth his fees, which are super reasonable in my opinion. Saying this about an attorney is rare, but I absolutely love this lawyer. And no, I’m not getting paid to mention his name. In fact, I haven’t spoken to him in several years but I’ve used him enough times to confidently refer his services to any of my friends or family. Shaffer is seriously good at his job.
Thank you for your service police dudes!
